The virus that causes COVID-19 is the recently discovered severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which enters host cells through the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane serine protease 2.[1,2] When the virus infects human hosts, it causes an overreaction of the immune system and symptoms similar to pneumonia. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and COVID-19.
