GPC3 was shown to be elevated in a study of 60 HB tumor samples and negative in adjacent benign liver parenchyma, illustrating that this marker is highly expressed in HB cells.35 In addition, GPC3 is overexpressed in HCC.36 This specificity of GPC3 for hepatocellular cancer cells has led to the development of GPC3-targeting chimeric antigen receptor T-cell trials that are currently being evaluated in clinical trials enrolling pediatric and adult patients with liver tumors. This evidence concerns the gene GPC3 and hemoglobin measurement.
