In ischemic stroke models, astrocytes convert to a phagocytic phenotype by upregulating ATP‐binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and its pathway‐related molecules MEGF10 and engulfment adapter phosphotyrosine‐binding domain containing 1 (GULP1), which can engulf presynaptic and postsynaptic components (Figure 2). The gene discussed is MEGF10; the disease is ischemic stroke.
