PC‐SPES, a herbal medication used for treating prostate cancer, had two marker compounds namely baicalin and ORI, both exhibited antiproliferative potentials in prostate cancer cells, perhaps through downregulation of androgen receptor as well as initiation of apoptosis through increased p53 expression and inhibition of BCL‐2 gene (Marks et al., 2002). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is prostate cancer.
