Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is found at postsynaptic neuromuscular junctions and immediately breaks down acetylcholine (natural neurotransmitter) into acetic acid and choline. These AChE helps to terminate neuronal transmission and signalling that causes problems in communication of neuronal signals and sometime causes Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The gene discussed is ACHE; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
