NF-κB regulates genes responsible for the innate and adaptive immune response, and several studies have shown that this transcription factor is upregulated in glial cells of both sporadic and patients with familial ALS (Frakes et al., 2014; Maruyama et al., 2010; Swarup et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
