It is of interest whether the persistent and chronic HIV/AIDS disease, despite continued administration of antiretroviral therapies, disrupts the normal regulation of miRNA levels in the primary infection event in CD4+ thymocytes or in the secondary influence event in/on CD34+ HSPCs, which necessitates further studies on how HIV causes miRNA mediated dysregulation prior and subsequent to the miRNA–mRNA/HOX interactions (Figure 3).
