CD34 and HIV infectious disease: We postulate and hypothesize that HIV infection induces hematopoietic dysfunction via the infected CD4+ T-cell-mediated microRNAs that will target the homeobox messenger RNA (HOX mRNA) of the CD34+ hematopoietic stem-progenitor cells (HSPCs) present in the cellular microenvironment post-transcriptionally, consequently affecting these cells’ fate to cause hematopoietic inhibition (Figure 1).
