FUS and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Some studies have synthesized Edaravone derivatives coupled with 1-aminoadamantane with alkylidene or hydroxypropyl groups and investigated their biological activity, and the compounds have been found to inhibit the lipid peroxidation and the calcium-associated mitochondrial permeability, block fast sodium currents in the neurons of central nervous system, and reduce the aggregation of FUS-protein in the typical mutant form of ALS, and have the potential to be optimized for using in the treatment of ALS (29).
