An analysis of the top 25 differentially expressed genes between the two cancer cell clusters revealed an upregulation of genes associated with increased cellular proliferation (Pdgfa, Sox9) [25, 26], invasion and migration (Lrp1, Cd9, Cxcl1, Anxa1, Areg, Ifitm3), [27–33] epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) (Vim, Inhba], [34, 35] and stemness and metastatic potential (S100A4, Nrp2, Aldh2, JunB) [36–41] in NT2.5-LM. This evidence concerns the gene AREG and cancer.
