There have been studies that suggest a benefit of RRSO on breast cancer risk, but the significance and extent of the effect remains uncertain.34 Salpingectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes and fimbriae) alone has not been statistically proven as a method for risk reduction.35 The 2018 Cochrane study analyzed 10 reviews from the years 1999 through 2017 assessing the benefits and harms of RRSO in women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations. The gene discussed is BRCA2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
