Pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17 and TNF-α, as well as chemokines CXCL8, CXCL10, and CXCL13 are significantly elevated in the saliva of patients with Sjögren’s syndrome compared to healthy controls, and that their levels are correlated with the activity and severity of disease [23–25]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL10 and Sjogren syndrome.
