IL6 and Insulin resistance: Though IL‐6 is also a myokine and can be anti‐inflammatory when secreted during muscle contraction (Karstoft & Pedersen, 2016), the chronic secretion of IL‐6 from adipocytes in the presence of these other inflammatory markers leads to the dysregulation of glucose homeostasis and development of insulin resistance (Stout et al., 2017; Tagliaferri et al., 2015).
