In 2014, Linkermann et al. suggested that renal tubules are not sensitized to necroptosis by loss of FADD or caspase-8, and the RIPK1 inhibitor nec-1 does not protect freshly isolated tubules from hypoxic injury, while ferroptosis directly causes synchronized necrosis of renal tubules in models of IRI-AKI [37]. This evidence concerns the gene RIPK1 and acute kidney injury.
