By utilizing our novel dKO mouse strain for both in vivo IAV infections as well as PCLS cultures, we have demonstrated that Tollip/SP-A deficiency enhances IAV infection via an impaired innate immune response (i.e., neutrophilic inflammation, Fig. 6), and that SP-A’s role in viral infection is dependent on the presence of Tollip. This evidence concerns the gene TOLLIP and viral infectious disease.
