Understanding the roles of epigenetic regulators in normal hematopoiesis and in initiation and maintenance of hematopoietic malignancies including FLT3-ITD AML have paved the way for the development of epigenetically targeted therapies including small-molecule inhibitors of certain epigenetic regulators involved in DNA methylation (azacitidine and decitabine) and other epigenetic-related processes such as IDH-related modifications. Here, IDH2 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
