In NAFLD, ANO1 binds to vesicle‐associated membrane protein 3 (VAMP3), leading to degradation of VAMP3, as well as inhibition of the formation of VAMP3/synuclein 4 and VAMP3/synaptosome‐associated protein 23 complexes, which results in hepatic glucose transport protein 2 (GLUT2) translocation and impaired glucose uptake, causing disruption of glucose metabolism with secondary effects, increasing insulin resistance and promoting adipogenesis.31 The gene discussed is VAMP3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
