SLC7A11 and cancer: Several compounds, including 2-deoxyglucose (2DG), disulfide reductants like dithiothreitol (DTT), β-mercaptoethanol (2ME), or tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (TCEP), and thiol compounds like N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and L-penicillamine (L-Pen), can prevent cancer cells with high SLC7A11 expression from dying glucose starvation [8, 9] (Fig. 4).
