Several studies have shown that PNPLA3 overexpression induces hepatic steatosis through the carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP) and sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c (SREBP1c), and its silencing prevents the development of hepatic fat storage and inflammation, thereby effectively preventing the development of NAFLD [12,13,14]. The gene discussed is PNPLA3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
