The results of the current study agree with a meta-analysis of 16 studies [11] that revealed an association between the PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G polymorphism and NAFLD, as well as the development of fibrosis in different populations around the world, not including the Egyptian population, and an association between the PNPLA3 rs738409 GG genotype and increased serum alanine aminotransferase levels. This evidence concerns the gene PNPLA3 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
