While cytokine-mediated inflammation is established as an important component of cellular responses to both irradiation and cellular hypoxia in normal and tumor cells [112,113,114,115,116], there was no direct comparison of NF-κB-induced cytokine secretion by cancer cells under normoxia and hypoxia following exposure to high- and low-LET radiation to the best of our knowledge up to now. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is neoplasm.
