Altogether, the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is a major regulator of the cell cycle; thus, alterations in gene regulation due to mutations contribute to the development and progression of ovarian cancer (reviewed by Aziz et al. [62]) as well as in the transformation process from a healthy endometrium to endometriosis and EAOC (reviewed by Driva et al. [63]). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and ovarian cancer.
