SOD1 and cancer: Thus, serological measurements of GSH, the main ROS scavenger molecule, MDA, one of the several byproducts of lipid peroxidation processes which occurs with prolonged exposure to oxygen radicals, and GPx and SOD activity levels, two of the main antioxidants to reduce/neutralise ROS, may all provide a more comprehensive understanding of the imbalance between the production of ROS and the ability of cells to detoxify them, which is associated with the diseases and contributes to tissue damage, inflammation, and cancer progression.
