Experimental studies in animal models have suggested that SGLT2 inhibitors may have beneficial modulatory effects on MASLD, and several studies in patients have demonstrated their beneficial effects on liver enzymes, BMI, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance in MASLD patients, potentially inhibiting the progression of liver damage to HCC in these patients [92]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
