AKT1 and acute myeloid leukemia: Curcumin has been investigated as a potential cytotoxic compound against a series of AML cell lines, including HL-60, ML-2, and U937, by Zhou et al. The results showed that curcumin primarily targeted Akt in all tested cell lines, but the sensitivity of different AML cells to curcumin was not fully correlated with the Akt phosphorylation status, suggesting that there may be crosstalk between PI3K/Akt and other pathways affected by curcumin [73].
