The [Ru(tpy)(NN)] scaffold, where tpy is the tridentate 2,2′;6′,2”-terpyridine ligand, and NN are bidentate ligands, has been used for the caging of abiraterone, a human CYP17A1 inhibitor approved for the treatment of prostate cancer (shown as the lavender monodentate ligand in 2, Figure 2) [47]. The gene discussed is CYP17A1; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
