The examination of protein-coding genes shows a marginal and not statistically significant (p = 0.48; chi-square test, Table 3) over-representation in the number of variants in the Mitochondrially Encoded Cytochrome C Oxidase I (MT-CO1) and the Mitochondrially Encoded ATP Synthase Membrane Subunit 6 (MT-ATP6) genes in ALS patients (Figure S2e). Here, MT-ATP6 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
