IL1B and ulcer disease: Interestingly, our finding that that levels of IL1β were significantly higher in the supernatant of exposed ulcer-HDFs with respect to unexposed ulcer-HDFs and normal-HDFs may explain the optimization of the wound closure assay, since evidence [38,40,41] has shown that IL1β levels correlate with active immune cell infiltration following the exacerbation of inflammation, leading to the rebalancing of pro-inflammatory cytokines and aiding in the transition from the inflammatory to the proliferative phase in skin wounds.
