Alterations in CLU expression have been associated with serious physiological diseases, such as spongiform encephalopathies, hippocampal and heart ischemic injuries, atherosclerosis [7], schizophrenia [8], cardiovascular diseases [9], cancer, vascular damage, diabetes, and osteoarthritis [10], and degenerative conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa [11], Parkinson’s disease [12], and Alzheimer’s [13,14].
