Serum biomarkers such as CRP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, leukocyte count, neutrophil granulocyte count, neutrophil granulocyte to lymphocyte ratio, fibrinogen, D-dimers, interleukin-6 and procalcitonin are inexpensive, diagnostic tools that are almost always available and give rapid results for the diagnosis of periprosthetic infections.
