SLC12A5 and idiopathic generalized epilepsy: In recent years, several pathogenic variants of SLC12A5 have been linked to, e.g., idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE), epilepsy of infancy with migrating focal seizures (EIMFS), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia (SZ) (Kahle et al., 2014; Puskarjov et al., 2014; Merner et al., 2015; Stödberg et al., 2015; Saitsu et al., 2016; Saito et al., 2017), highlighting the importance of this protein in modulating neurodevelopment and neuronal inhibition and its potential as a therapeutic target for treating epilepsies (McMoneagle et al., 2023).
