Interestingly, F553L, a K548 neighboring mutation, which is associated with human lung carcinoma based on the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database revealed, also compromised PARP1 UFMylation (SI Appendix, Fig. S2G), suggesting that deficiency in PARP1 UFMylation may contribute to the development of cancer. The gene discussed is PARP1; the disease is cancer.
