Twenty-four hours following surgery, there was a significant fall in lymphocyte count (p < 0.0001) and rise in neutrophil count (p < 0.0001), neutrophil:lymphocyte ratio (p < 0.0001), C-reactive protein (CRP) (p < 0.0001), serum IL-7 (p = 0.0020), and serum IL-6 (p = 0.0031) among patients with and without post-operative infections. Here, CRP is linked to infection.
