The p62-Keap1-NRF2 pathway upregulates multiple genes involved in iron and ROS metabolism (Metallothionein-1G[MT-1G], quinone oxidoreductase 1 [NQO1], heme oxygenase-1 [HO1], ferritin heavy chain 1 [FTH1], and ATP binding cassette subfamily C member 5[ABCC5]) plays a central role in protecting HCC cells from ferroptosis (68, 69), which induces resistance to sorafenib. The gene discussed is FTH1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
