Although a direct relationship between these NO-regulated genes and cancer progression have yet to be documented in the scientific literature, some reports demonstrate that the genes upregulated by NO (GJC2, CPA4, SMG8, COL5A2, POLQ)49–53 and the genes downregulated by NO (SYTL1, PRR15L)54,55 are associated with deleterious outcomes when up- or down-regulated in the same direction in cancer patients. The gene discussed is SYTL1; the disease is cancer.
