PDC and retinitis pigmentosa 1: Based on the upregulation of these genes associated with nucleic acid damage in myeloid cells in RP+ subjects, we propose that myeloid cells, such as monocytes and pDC, may harbor abnormalities in nucleic acids within the nucleus or mitochondria, which could be an inflammatory or differentiating cue by mimicking microbial or viral infection in patients with RP.
