Atherosclerosis-reducing effects were observed in mice with transgenic or adenoviral-mediated overexpression of the human APOA1 gene, as well as in mice following administration of purified apoA-I, and it was proposed that apoA-I hinders atherosclerosis by lowering lipid and immune cell accumulation within atherosclerotic lesions (17, 18, 19). Here, APOA1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
