The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), one of the tyrosine kinases associated with EMT, and the phosphorylation of its downstream effector kinases, including protein kinase B (AKT) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), can also be induced and enhanced by F. nucleatum, thereby activating the EMT process in CRC cells [43].
