Importantly, mislocalizationof receptors has been associated withseveral human diseases.21 Increased levelsof TβRII in the cytoplasm have been associated with poor prognosisin breast cancer patients.23 Mutant TβRII(E221 V/N238I) was identified in human oral squamous cell carcinomaand showed impaired receptor endocytosis with increased TGFβsignal activity.24 Moreover, a recent studyin breast cancer patients revealed that the levels of TβRII-containingcirculating extracellular vesicles appear to correlate with tumorburden, metastasis, and patient survival.25 This evidence concerns the gene TGFBR2 and breast carcinoma.
