Increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines including Interleukin IL-1 β (IL-1 β), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Interleukin 8 (IL-8), Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), and regulatory cytokines including Interleukin 10 (IL-10), and Interferon gamma-induced protein (IP)-10 (or CXCL-10) have been shown in patients with periodontitis [11].
