Regarding the association of incident TNF inhibitor use with all-cause mortality in patients with IBD, a few observational studies have reported a lower risk of mortality associated with incident TNF inhibitor use.22,23 However, these previous studies have assessed the mortality risk associated with new anti-TNF therapy compared with prolonged use of corticosteroids; hence, it remained unclear whether patients with new anti-TNF drug use could have a survival benefit compared with nonusers of such therapy, irrespective of prolonged use of corticosteroids. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
