BCR-ABL has been identified as a causative gene product of CML through its stimulation of cellular proliferative signals, including the transcription factor signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) and the mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MEK-ERK) pathway [5,6,7]. The gene discussed is ABL1; the disease is chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
