PTH and COVID-19: PTH was higher in the colostrum of mothers who suffered COVID-19, and the mechanism explaining this increase in PTH levels can be explained by several factors: firstly, parathyroid gland function could be impaired during inflammatory response due to the exacerbated inflammatory signaling, diminishing the liberation of PTH [44]; also, previous studies conducted during severe acute respiratory syndrome demonstrated the presence of viruses in the parathyroid gland, impairing its endocrine function [45,46].
