In a recent study by Sim at al., higher levels of CD8+CD28−CD57+ and CD4+CD28−CD57+ cells were observed in the livers of patients with type 2 diabetes and MASH or liver cirrhosis, compared with healthy controls, and correlated with the severity of liver fibrosis (45). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
