ACE and heart failure: Data demonstrate that women and men respond differently to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors), a frequently used heart failure medication, with women less likely to experience benefit from the drug unless they are appreciably symptomatic.45 In addition, women treated with digoxin for HFwREF had a higher death rate than women who took placebo; this was not observed in males in the trial,45,46 nor is it mentioned in any of the clinical textbooks analyzed in this study.
