HLA-C and cancer: They target and kill cancer cells without the restriction of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, thus having a broader recognition on cancer cells, including those deficient in MHC class I. γδT cells are adept at secreting cytokines like interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and they can directly eliminate tumor cells through mechanisms such as Fas/FasL and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) (11).
