We note that host PKC has been previously implicated in RBC infection by P. falciparum as well as non-RBC host cell infection by distantly related Toxoplasma gondii (Millholland et al., 2013; Adderley et al., 2020); our data showing activity for multiple PKC inhibitors in B. divergens is consistent with a broadly conserved role for host PKC in infection by parasites from Apicomplexa (Figure 1, Table 1). The gene discussed is PRRT2; the disease is infection.
