Recent evidence reveals that hyalocytes express factors involved in phagocytosis, such as MERTK, CD74, and HLA-DRA, which codes for MHCII molecules [10] (Fig. 3), suggesting their potential contribution to erythrophagocytosis and clearance of vitreous hemorrhage in conditions like PDVR or anomalous posterior vitreous detachment with vitreous hemorrhage.
