The experimental use of mice with induced glaucoma and with or without deletion of astroglial IκKβ, which is the main activating kinase involved in IκB degradation through the canonical pathway of NF-κB activation, showed reduced production of inflammatory cytokines in brain ganglia lacking IκKβ, including TNF-α, which can induce apoptosis of RGCs and axonal degeneration in glaucoma. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is glaucoma.
