Although it is not FDA approved for treatment of hypoparathyroidism in the United States, single and multiple daily subcutaneous administration of synthetic human PTH(1-34) has been shown to be effective in clinical trials for the treatment of postsurgical hypoparathyroidism [9-11] and other forms of hypoparathyroidism (ie, idiopathic, autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 1, calcium-sensing receptor mutation) [12, 13]. The gene discussed is CASR; the disease is hypoparathyroidism.
