The cornea has previously been found to have two populations of macrophages: CCR2lorMP which may be there from embryogenesis and recruited CCR2hiMP that are recruited to the cornea in response to chemokines that signal through CCR2 (e.g., CCL2) that increase from inflammatory stimuli such as dry eye (16, 17). Here, CCR2 is linked to Keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
